Kindergarten is an important milestone for your child and family, and UCPS is here to help guide you through the enrollment process. Union County parents who wish to enroll their student in kindergarten may do so in Infinite Campus, our online enrollment portal, and complete the online enrollment process. For additional questions, please contact the school that your child will attend.
UCPS elementary schools have many competitive academic offerings, ranging from dual language immersion programs to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) initiatives. Our highly qualified teachers will empower your child to think critically while also nurturing their creativity in a safe learning environment. And our schools provide educational experiences that will prepare your student to be a leader as well as a responsible, caring and service-oriented citizen.
Information Needed to Enroll
- Parent/Guardian Identification
- Government-issued photo identification with current address (Driver’s License/ID, Passport)
- Legal custody or guardianship documents when applicable
- Required Proof of Age Documentation (Policy 4-02: Age Requirements for Attendance)
- Parents or legal guardians must provide the following: The parent or guardian of any child presented for admission for the first time will furnish a certified copy of the child's birth certificate or other competent and verifiable evidence of the child's date of birth. Such evidence may include but is not limited to: (1) a certified copy of any medical record of the child's birth issued by the treating physician or the hospital in which the child was born; or (2) a certified copy of a birth certificate issued by a church, mosque, temple or other religious institution that maintains birth records of its members.
- Domicile and Residence Defined (Policy 4-19)
- A student who is domiciled within the geographic area served by the district, as determined by the street address of the residence, who is under age 21 (22 for students entitled to special education services), who has not completed the prescribed courses for high school graduation and who otherwise qualifies for admission, is entitled to be admitted without payment of tuition. Domicile requires the intent to abandon one’s prior home and remain in the new location as a permanent home for an indefinite period. In contrast, a residence need not be one’s exclusive home and does not require an intention that the residence be the permanent home.
- Two Proofs of Domicile
- ONE (1) of the following:
- Mortgage statement dated within the past 30 days
- Current Notarized rental/lease agreement
- Notarized Purchase Agreements must have a closing/settlement date.
- AND one (1) of the following – acceptable ONLY if dated within the past 30 days:
- Utility bill (electric, water, or gas) with current address
- Telephone bill with current address
- Property insurance policy with current address
- Automobile registration with current address
- ONE (1) of the following:
- Immunization Records
- Health assessment
- Any student new to NC Public Schools is required to submit a health assessment on a North Carolina transmittal form within the first 30 days of enrolling in school.
- Academic Records
- Name, telephone number and address of previous school attended
- Report Card or Grade Placement information
- Withdrawal form if available

When can I enroll my child for kindergarten?
Kindergarten enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year is open now.
How do I know which school my child should attend?
Please use the Edulog School Assignment Finder to identify which school your child will attend. If you encounter any problems while using Edulog, or are unable to find the school to which your student is assigned, please email edulog@ucps.k12.nc.us.
Are there any eligibility requirements?
How do I enroll my child in kindergarten?
Kindergarten enrollment is processed through Infinite Campus, the UCPS online enrollment system.
What documents do I need to enroll my child?
- Your child’s birth certificate to verify he or she will be five years old on or before Aug. 31. Birth certificates can be obtained from county officials in the county where your student was born.
- A certified copy of your child’s immunization record that includes a doctor’s signature or a clinic’s stamp as proof the vaccines were given. Please visit the UCPS website for a complete list of immunizations required by law before your student’s first day of school.
- Two documents that provide proof of residence from the list below:
- A notarized rental agreement or purchase agreement on a residence
- Utility bills (telephone, gas, electricity) that list the correct name and address
- A driver’s license OR automobile registration
- An automobile OR property insurance policy
- An income tax W-2 form
- A property tax bill
- Before the first day of school, you will also need to provide your school with a completed Kindergarten Health Assessment Report. The form must be signed by a doctor and include all of the information requested on the form.

When is the kindergarten application period for the UCPS Dual Language Immersion Program?
The kindergarten application period for the UCPS Dual Language Immersion Program is March 9 - April 2. Families of rising kindergarten students are encouraged to visit school websites for information about open houses and immersion parent meetings. Students must register for kindergarten in Infinite Campus for their assigned school before submitting an application for the Dual Language Immersion Program.

How can I learn more about my child’s school?
Schools will hold open houses/tours for families. Visit your school’s website and follow their social media pages for weekly updates.
Is transportation provided to kindergarten students?
Yes, transportation is available for all UCPS students and specific information will be provided to families closer to the beginning of the school year. For additional information about transportation, please contact the school your student will attend.
Does UCPS provide an after-school program for students?
Yes, parents have the option of enrolling their students in an After School Program that is conveniently located at elementary schools.

What support services are available for students with disabilities?
Our Exceptional Children’s Program provides special education and related services for eligible children with disabilities and is designed to meet their unique needs and prepare them for further education, employment and independent living.
Once determined eligible by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team, the students’ needs are addressed through the development of an individualized education program which may address cognitive, educational, physical, behavioral, communication, motor and adaptive needs of the student.
